Four Views on Creation, Evolution, and Intelligent Design
Young earth creationism believes that history is solely based on the Bible. It acknowledges that God created the world 6000-10000 years ago in contrast to old earth creationism and evolution. Old earth creationism bases vital poisons, Avalon, and Cambrian explosions to support that earth was created 13.8 billion years ago. Evolutionary ideas would prove that God created everything billions of years ago to create diverse life on earth. A Christian-evolution standpoint believes it’s a natural mechanism by which God achieves His purpose.
The beauty of evolution is that it allows the connection between science and God. It emphasizes natural means in the physical world but still celebrates God as the creator of those mechanisms. The natural process brings particles and forces together to create a complex world. Comparatively, young earth believes that God’s creation happened in six literal days because God used the Hebrew word “Yom,” meaning a day with 24 hours. Old earth creationism states that creation days are revelatory, separated by long periods, not just 24 hours, as God’s days are not our days. They argue that “Yom” has four meanings, one of which means a long yet finite period. Both creationism agrees Adam and Eve were created in the image of God. Young earth creationism believes that no bloodshed occurred before the fall of Adam, in contrast to old earth creationism and evolution. Young earth creationism believes God destroyed the entire world with a year-long flood. However, old earth creationism argues that it wasn’t a global event as humanity had not spread globally yet. All Christian perspectives base their principles on Scripture in contrast to intelligent design, which only relies on scientific evidence. Intelligent design is a faith-based evolution within scientific evidence. Even though it’s not based on religion, it affirms that life and the universe are creations of a designing intelligence. The complexity of creations compels our faith that only an intelligent designer could create an intelligent universe.
Critical Reflection:
God faithfully reveals to humanity through the book of nature and the book of Scriptures, i.e., general and special revelation.
Dual Revelations:
We have to weigh the dual revelation equally, as both are the products of God. Thus both revelations should be consistent internally, externally, and mutually. By rejecting one and not the other, we make the world fit into our views and deny the creator. So we must emphasize both when seeking evidence. The evidence points to old earth creationism. This idea interprets both the Bible and science in the context of God’s salvific goal. All four authors helped explain God’s essential identity and role in these processes. Meaning old earth and evolution is true, but God controlled both. It is entirely possible and tangible that old earth creationism is from our observable world. Therefore, I believe God directed the old creation process and, through miracle or evolution, facilitated His redemptive plan and revealed it through His dual revelations.
