Come, Transform, and Go
The missional hermeneutic of the Bible explains the story that leads up to Christ (messianic) and the story that leads on from Christ (missional). The missional hermeneutic neither lies only in the obedience of the Great Commission nor the Great Commandment but on the Great Communication. The Great Communication is God’s revelation to humanity, His continuing work in the world, and His saving purpose for humanity. Mission flows from the powerful progression of God in personal relationships. God is the source of mission, and it belongs to God.
When Jesus appeared to His disciples after the resurrection, He explained not only His messianic and missional purpose but also insisted on our role in God’s mission. To fully grasp the magnitude of the messianic role, we have to cognize of the missional part of Jesus in relation to God’s mission. Most of us understand messianic significance because our salvation depends on it, but we forget the missional importance. We read the Scripture for our salvation, security, and encouragement. We forget God’s universal plan for all nations, the multicultural essence of the gospel, and the importance of the Church’s mission.
Jesus’ mission is to restore Israel and bring salvation to the world. Israel’s mission is to bring blessings to all nations. Our mission lies in our committed participation to redeem creation through a personal relationship with God. When we have a personal relationship with God, He will open our minds. The same way Jesus opened the minds of His disciples regarding the importance of His mission. Let’s come closer to God’s voice to transform in the likeness of Jesus and go into the world to fulfill God’s purpose.
