God’s Dual Revelation
Introduction:
As a believer in Christ and a STEMM student, I always wanted to prove to the world the Bible supports Science. I was disappointed when I learned that scientists proved the Bible’s revelation of the flat earth theory wrong. Even though so many scriptures declare that God is truthful and does not lie in word or deed, I didn’t even have the courage to explore the Bible verse that gave the idea of the flat earth theory. After reading the textbooks and other materials for this course, I learned that the Bible is not wrong, but the verse’s interpretation was wrong. I also learned God gave us dual revelation: the general revelation from the book of nature and the special revelation from the book of Scriptures, the Bible. God reveals Himself through His creation within the special revelation, but He wanted to keep both of them separate for a divine purpose. That’s why we will find neither Mass-Energy(E=MC2) nor speed of light(c = fλ) formulas in the Bible. Similarly, Science has its limitations on the biblical plan of salvation or the attributes of God. From the Scriptures and our personal experience, we can confirm that God is almighty and unchanging. Thus, the dual revelation from God must be trustworthy and free of contradiction and error.
The relationship between dual revelation:
Creationists and evolutionists engage different models to address the relationship between dual revelation. All the models fall under four categories: Conflict model, where both the revelations conflict with each other; Separate Magisteria model, where both the revelations are independent of each other; Complementary model, where both the revelations complement each other and Constructive Integration model, where there is significant overlap between the revelations. Ross believes that the book of nature helps believers bring non-believers to the book of Scriptures. Perry believes that the dual revelations do not conflict but complement each other.
Reasons to Believe:
The Reasons to Believe organization employs the Constructive Integration model, and one of the cornerstones of RTB rests upon dual revelation. It implies that the dual revelation of God will always be in harmony with one another, and there will be no contradiction. Scientists interpret the general revelation to Science and theologians interpret the special revelation to Theology. Both Science and Theology need human interpretation. Conflicts between Science and Theology don’t damage RTB’s creation model. Also, it doesn’t damage God’s faithfulness. It recognizes faulty interpretation and incomplete understanding. Thus, the conflict between dual revelation urges us to reevaluate our interpretations.
Conclusion:
God faithfully reveals to humanity through the book of nature and the book of Scriptures. As believers in Christ, we must seek God’s knowledge and wisdom to understand His general and special revelations. When we call upon God, He will reveal the great and unsearchable things we do not know. The more we integrate the general and special revelations, the easier it will be to guide non-believers to the truth.
